Papers, 1916-1986.

The collection contains materials from Jett's personal life, newspaper clippings from the Richmond, Ind. area, and bulletins from a number of area churches. There are also materials for the Mary B. Talbert Club, the Margaret Smith Home and the Mary E. Hill Home. Also included are papers from three other Richmond residents: Marjorie Bradford, Esther Vanlandingham, and Christella Kelly. The collection is a part of the Black Women in the Middle West Project.

Jett was born in Lancaster, Ky. and moved to Richmond, Ind. as an infant. She attended Earlham College and Indiana University--Purdue University at Indianapolis. She belongs to the Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Richmond and is active in church work. Her community activities include the Mary B. When she found she could not maintain a full time job and take care of her blind and ailing sister, Mary E. Hill turned her own home into Indiana's first nursing care facility in 1948. It was originally called the Mary E. Hill Nursing Home for Aged Colored Women, but in later years it was open to all races and genders.
